HRA5/HRS5 9-gauge collated hog rings are the matching rings for the HRP5 long-handle hog ring plier, built for tying tension wire to chain link fence on commercial and residential jobs. Each ring is drawn from true 9 ga wire (0.148″, where many “9 gauge” rings run thinner) and closes with an overlap clinch that makes a more secure connection than a standard side-by-side clinch. The rings come in 25-ring loading strips with no sharp points, so the HRP5 magazine loads fast and safe. Two materials:
- HRA5 aluminum: 6061-T94 or 5052-H38 aluminum alloy. Light and weather resistant.
- HRS5 galvanized steel: Class 3 zinc coating per ASTM A641 (0.8 oz zinc per ft). Weather resistant.
Applications
- Chain link tension wire: secure 7 ga (4.5 mm) tension wire to 9 ga (3.8 mm) chain link fabric.
- Commercial fence lines: production work on long runs where spec calls for true 9 ga rings.
- Fence repair: re-tie loose fabric to tension wire on existing chain link.

Using them
- Load a 25-ring strip into the HRP5 magazine from either side. The plunger feeds each ring forward.
- These rings work only in the HRP5. They will not feed or close correctly in other hog ring pliers, and the HRP5 takes only HRA5/HRS5 rings.
- Typical spacing is 12″ to 24″, most often 24″. At 24″, one case covers a 1000 ft bale.
- Choose HRS5 steel for the stiffest tie and a galvanized finish. Choose HRA5 aluminum for lighter weight.
- Built for 7 ga wire to 9 ga chain link. They may not wrap well around two 6 ga panel wires.
